Lifetime Exposures and Asthma Outcomes Model
Canada’s first asthma policy reference model
Research Aim: to provide a unified framework to evaluate strategies for preventing and treating asthma in Canada through an open-source and open-access platform
Burden of Asthma
Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children and imposes a high burden on patients, their caregivers and the healthcare system. Over 3 million Canadians and 339 million people worldwide are affected by asthma. It is one of the leading causes of emergency department visits, hospital admissions, missed school days for children, and loss of work productivity for adults in Canada.
Disease Management and Preventative Research
Because there is no cure for asthma, management of asthma is focused on controlling symptoms and improving quality of life. However, promising interventions to prevent asthma before it develops exists. Progress and investment in these preventative strategies has been stalled by a lack of investment and understanding of their value.
